Microsuction

Microsuction is the process where the ear is cleaned out using an operating microscope and a small electric suction pump. This is a much better way to have your ears cleaned as it allows a highly magnified 3 D view of your ear canal and eardrum. This allows us to ensure no damage is caused to the delicate structures in the ear, and is much safer than traditional syringing or other methods using a headlight.

Cleaning without suction

Some people find the noise of the suction unit uncomfortable, and prefer to have the ear wax removed manually with a small probe. We are more than happy to clean your ears this way if you prefer, just let us know when you come for your appointment.

Other conditions

Although most of the time the blockage people experience is simple wax, sometimes this can be caused by foreign bodies like cotton buds, rolled up tissue paper or even dead insects. We can remove all of these and are also able to clean mastoid cavities, although these may require an additional charge due to the time needed. Dr Elias-Jones and Dr Daniels are both very experienced GP's as well as working in ENT, so should any medical issues be identified during your appointment we can treat this at the same time.

Housebound patients

Unfortunately due to the size of the machine, we are unable to come out and visit housebound patients for Microsuction.
